Aliakbari was born in Iran on January 11, 1988. He became a professional boxer in 2006 and competed in the welterweight division. He had an undefeated record of 25-0 with 16 knockouts before he was banned from boxing for life by the International Boxing Association (AIBA) for violating their anti-doping rules.

In March 2016, AIBA announced that Aliakbari had tested positive for methylhexaneamine, a stimulant often found in nasal decongestants and sold as a dietary supplement or weight loss pill. It was reported that Aliakbari had taken it inadvertently when he took his mother’s medication to help her with her cold symptoms.
