Who is Paul Varelans?
Paul Varelans was born in the Soviet Union and was raised in Brooklyn, New York.
He started boxing at the age of 8 when his father took him to a gym and signed him up for a boxing class. He loved it right away and never stopped training with boxing gloves.
At the age of 18, he won a gold medal at the US Olympic Trials, but then he was drafted into the Vietnam War.
He spent 10 months in Vietnam and came back with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
After that, he continued to train but had a hard time finding opponents because he was so good.
In 1976, he became world champion and retired from boxing after that.
